KinderBoost Program

KinderBoost Program Now Offered in LCSD#2

KinderBoost is the first year of a two-year kindergarten experience. This gives children the gift of time to develop fundamental skills needed for success in school, as well as in an age and developmentally appropriate setting.  KinderBoost provides an opportunity for young students to develop socially, emotionally and academically to help them transition into kindergarten. This is a full day program and follows the district’s school year calendar.

Who can attend?

Any student in LCSD#2 who will be 5 by September 15th, can attend.  Students who need more time to meet the rigor of today’s kindergarten are identified through a screening process. This screening process takes place in the spring at each elementary school in the district. If you have a child that is of age, you MUST call the schools to set up an appointment to be screened.

How is it different from preschool?

KinderBoost is an academic program, taught by a certified teacher. It is a bridge between preschool and kindergarten that builds on a child’s developmental skills. It will move at a developmental rate both socially and academically to set the foundation for success in kindergarten.

What are some of the things students will learn?

  • Engaging in Cooperative Play and Problem Solving Skills
  • Working Independently and Following 1 and 2 Step Directions
  • Active Listening Skills
  • Shapes and Colors
  • Name, Letter, and Number Writing and Fine Motor Skills
  • Letter Recognition and Concepts of Print

Why Choose KinderBoost?

By the end of kindergarten, students are reading, writing stories, and using addition and subtraction. Higher academic rigor can create stress or frustration in small children and we want to foster a love of learning in a less demanding environment. If a child isn’t quite ready for the challenging kindergarten curriculum or socially/emotionally ready, then KinderBoost will give students an extra year to develop skills that will not only help them succeed in kindergarten, but to excel and become leaders.
