Jon Abrams
Superintendent
Welcome to the Laramie County School District No. 2 website. It is my desire that this website be informative and helpful and keeps you informed about activities and events in the school district.
Our District is located in the southeast corner of Wyoming. We serve four elementary schools in Albin, Burns, Carpenter and Pine Bluffs. We also have two high schools located in Burns and Pine Bluffs. Our dedicated teachers and staff serve a student population of approximately 1,060.
The Vision of our District is “to be the Premier College and/or Career Readiness Center in the state of Wyoming.” We cannot do this unless we work collaboratively with all stakeholder groups. My personal commitment is that we always put students first in every decision that we make. To that end I'm committed. All decisions in the school district will focus on how we can prepare our students to be successful and fulfill whatever their dreams are as they graduate from high school.
Our district is on a four day calendar. Two hours on most Fridays are blocked out for students who need additional help. Staff professional development takes place after the two hours spent with students. Per state statute, we are required to seek input from all stakeholders as to whether or not we stay with the four day calendar. Last year, our stakeholder survey received 90% approval, as compared to 65% approval when the program was first implemented. We continue to look for ways to make our four day calendar more effective.
This school year is different than any other year in my 30+ years as an educator. COVID-19 has pushed us to do many things differently than we have in the past, but we are up to the test. The school board, administrative team, staff, parents, and most importantly, our students are making it work. Working together, we are moving forward. Important lessons are being learned about what matters most. I appreciate the support of all who are going the extra mile to provide our students with the experiences they want and need.
Please know that I welcome the opportunity to visit with patrons about any concerns they may have. It is my responsibility to make sure we provide students with a safe school environment where they can flourish and become the young men and women they want to be. Thank you to the patrons, staff, and most importantly; the students, who make this such a wonderful place to be.
