Friday interventions with bus route times

On Fridays, beginning in September, from 8:00 until 10:00 AM, Burns Elementary will be providing a Intervention Program. The purpose of the program is to provide academic assistance to students who have scored basic or below basic on the PAWS state assessment for grades 4-6 and for students that are below the proficiency level on the Spring MAP scores for grades 1-6 and the Fall Map scores for all kindergarten and new students enrolled at Burns Elementary.

The Fridays will also allow students the opportunity to make up assignments due to absences that affect their academic performance.  They will have the chance to get extra assistance from teachers and paraprofessionals on the assignments and classroom work.  They will also have the chance to complete and turn in missing assignments.

Remediation will be provided on pre scheduled Fridays in the areas of English/Language Arts, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies.

The Fridays will also include enrichment opportunities as well.  Our music programs will offer opportunities throughout the year for students to expand their interests as well as abilities in these areas.  There will also be other opportunities scheduled on some of these Fridays as well as field trips will be scheduled on Friday whenever possible.

Transportation will be provided from area bus stops.  These stops will be determined by the transportation department and sent out to you.

We believe the Friday Intervention Program will be the most effective way to improve your child’s academic performance. If your child is in need of assistance, you will receive a personal invitation by phone from the classroom teacher. It is essential that your child attend. We are working to improve the educational success of the students at Burns Elementary.  We strive to follow our school motto, “Work Hard, Work Smart, and Work Together.”
